Perhaps the green vests gave BDO the edge.

Teams are beginning to separate themselves in the league with the end of the fourth week of five-a-side football.

The situation is already getting clearer as to which teams are the ones to reckon with and which need to start finding a way to pick it up if they want to maintain post-season hopes. It may be early in the schedule, but nobody wants to get too far behind.

The first Division One game on 14 July, proved difficult for team Dart as they took one on the chin with a 10-2 loss to last year’s champs, Century 21.

The scoring charge for Century 21 was well balanced with Olsen Bush, Mario Watler, Leon Whittaker, and Roy Forbes netting two each, and one apiece from Jario Sanchez and Kenzel Dixon.

Team Dart’s only two points came by Kirk White and Gary Smith.

The second game had the BrittHay Warriors pulling out a win over the Marble and More team, 5-3. David Harding led the way for the Warriors, scoring three, with some help from Jermaine Seymour and Daina Heaven.

As for Marble and More’s scoring, Massimo Tirotta (2) and Alan Glasgow (1) tried to keep it close.

The third and final game of the night was a scoring fest for the first place RCC Strikers over the CML Claymores. The 12-3 win continued the Strikers’ undefeated season.

It was a balanced attack by the Strikers, with three goals by Gary Whittaker and one each from nine different players on a team of 18.

The last of the Division One games were played Tuesday, 15 July, with second place Burger King pounding the winless CFP team by 19-0. Burger King may have been avenging their big loss to RCC Strikers the previous week because they never let up.

Rene Carter led the scoring tirade with eight, followed by goals by Fred Ebanks (4), Dion Brandon (2), Joseph Ebanks (2), Greg Ebanks (2) and Henry Ebanks (1).

The Gold conference started its week of games on Wednesday, 16 July, with EY Old-Man United handing a goose egg to the Brickhouse Devils.

The 5-0 win, with goals by Rob Patraulea (2), Jon Pump (2) and Kevin Phillip (1), United moved in front of the Devils to take fifth place. And with Patraulea’s two goals he sits in second place for the league’s leading scorers.

DDL’s 3-0 win over PWC put more space between those two teams in the standings, with their 3-1 record good enough for third place. PWC’s loss puts them at .500. James Kennedy netted two of the three goals, and John Barclay added the other.

Old Boys kept their winning streak alive, staying undefeated with a 4-2 win over HSBC. They sit in first place with a 4-0 record, and are the only undefeated team in the league. HSBC suffered their second loss of the season, but held onto their second-place ranking.

Luciano Deriso had two for the Old Boys, while Brian Hydes (1), and Dominic Whitaker (1) helped out. HSBC teammates Kemar Scott and Chris Ebanks tried to keep them in the game.

For the games on Thursday, 17 July, Caledonian edged out KPMG Blue Rays 3-2, BDO-Tortuga won over Maples and Calder 6-1, and UBS endured a hard loss to third place KPMG Blue Iguanas 7-1.

Rohann Lewis netted all three goals for Caledonian, moving into 10th place for scorers; with the win they evened their won-loss record.

BDO-Tortuga’s Ben Bates led the way with three, assisted by Andy Bellfield (1), Dave O’Driscoll (1) and Brad Harvey (1), who gave the team the first win of the season.

Kenneth Adwmekwe (3) and Nick Evens (3) rallied the Blue Iguanas to a win, with Drew Koslow contributing one goal.

This week’s games offer some great matchups across all the leagues. For details on upcoming fixtures, check the Cayman Net News sports calendar in this section.
