Museum seeks photos and information Administrators of the Cayman Islands Museum are appealing to the public for any building-related historic photographs and information, to be used for reference purposes only. Urgently required are photographs of the exterior and interior of the Old Courts Building and Gaol and/or information on the former uses of this public building. Museum staff is also seeking specific objects such as a period gavel, a 1950s policeman’s uniform and, for an unrelated exhibit, a Cayman Turtle Soup can or other objects pertaining to the turtle canning industry. Department of Environment officials accordingly remind the public that anyone found guilty of violating the law is liable to a maximum penalty of CI$500,000 and one year in jail. The Marine Conservation Board The Marine Conservation Board is reminding residents who do not possess Caymanian status, or who are on work permit, that a license is required if they wish to fish from shore for consumption. ‘Catch-and-release’ sport fishing for game fish such as Tarpon, Bonefish, etc. does not require a license. The general public is also reminded that the taking of any marine species of fish less than 8 inches in length is illegal anywhere and by any means in Cayman waters. This does not apply to baitfish species such as Fry, Anchovy, Sprat or Goggle Eye. Those persons who possess fish pots are further reminded to follow construction specifications of the traps required by law.
