Cox drops Courts Road land buy

Cox Lumber will not purchase the 4.2-acre Court Road site it had sought to acquire from Government, leaving the property in the public sector, but further delaying any construction of low-cost housing. In the on-again, off-again saga surrounding the property, Government has confirmed that Cox Lumber will not now purchase the site, which was due to be sold by the end of January 2008.

Dart Realty, founders and builders of Camana Bay, have announced a recruitment drive for five top executives with salaries pegged between US$100,000 and US$300,000 per year. Among the new slots, according to Susanna Blackburn, Dart Realty Communications Manager, are chief operating officer and chief financial officer, reflecting the organisation’s rapid growth.

New voter identification cards issued

Elections Office staff began issuing new voter identification cards Monday, 12 May, setting up temporary residence at Cayman Airways Ltd (CAL) headquarters on Owen Roberts Drive. The exercise at CAL marked the first of a number of locations across the island where voters will be able to get their new ID cards. All eligible CAL staff were expected to have new ID cards by Friday, 16 May.

Airport CEO retires

The Cayman Islands Airport Authority (CIAA) is searching for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) after David Frederick retired from the post on Wednesday, 7 May. Senior Manager at the CIAA’s Meteorological Office, Fred Sambula, will act as CEO in the interim, the CIAA said, and that the recruitment process is already in motion. Mr Frederick, the CIAA said, is leaving in pursuit of personal interests.
