Cayman Islands Little League is holding another of its seriously fun auctions on Saturday, November 7 in support of its ‘Field of Dreams’ complex.
Little League has a reputation for providing an action-packed, entertaining evening for a great cause, and this year’s auction will be no different. In fact, it’s a tossup if it’s more fascinating for sport aficionados in attendance or for the people watchers?!
The League is taking it one step further this year, inviting guests to dress the part. The theme is “Spitz & Glitz”, a la Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe and other athlete-celebrity couples. Guests are invited to come glamorous or wear their favorite sports jersey.
“As always, it’ll be a lot of fun, and we think the ‘Spitz & Glitz’ theme will add to the event like never before,” said Rob Imparato, a Little League coach, board member and auction organizer. “I’m trying to decide whether to wear my old Sammy Sosa signed jersey or donate it. Maybe both!”
The Little League Auction features a wide variety of items in all range of prices, starting at about $25. Shoppers will be able to find some great deals in the silent auction while participating in the excitement of the live auction, all while supporting a great local cause for Cayman’s children.
Being held for the first time at the beautiful new Camana Bay Arts and Recreation Center, there is room for more people than ever.
The 2008 auction was a sellout, and Little League hopes this year to follow suit.
“We still need the support of the entire community, as this is our biggest fundraiser and it will have been 20 months since the last one,” explained auction coordinator Sara Mackay. “We hope to complement our loyal traditional auction attendees and corporate support with more of our parent base and those now playing in the co-ed leagues, some of whom played when the Field of Dreams was just a hope. We need everyone’s support and like to think we’ve earned it.
Twenty years of keeping our primary focus on free ball program for kids, while building and maintaining a wonderful ballpark where the entire community comes together for good clean fun, is pretty good stuff.”
Community support for Little League is strong because of the large number of children and adults who have participated in ball programmes over the years; people appreciate the facility the league is paying off.
Little League will start its 20th season in January 2010. Fundraising efforts go towards the League’s debt repayment for the ‘Field of Dreams’, while team sponsorships and field rental fees (for adults) cover only operating costs. |
