Walkers are tops in flag football

Published on Tuesday, October 27, 2009Email To Friend    Print Version

Walkers Wonders demonstrated a good passing game.

Walkers Wonders waited a year for the chance to avenge a championship game defeat and Saturday, 17 October they completed the task. Showing a scary intense focus, the Wonders completely dominated Hammerheads 13-0 to win the ladies’ championship in the Cayman Islands Flag Football Association. Walkers shut down an offence that had been unstoppable the last 6 weeks.

The defence, led by Krishan Welcome, and defensive player of the year , Malaqui Awe, completely stifled Hammerheads. Welcome sacked quarterback BoBeth O’Garro 3 times early and this combined with several early dropped passes took the Lady Sharks out of their game.

Steady Jordana Clark led the Walkers offense going eight of 15 in the passing department with two touchdown passes and an extra point toss. Cassandra Bodden and Isatou Sey each caught touchdown passes while Rachelle Peterson hauled in the extra point.

O’Garro only completed three of 20 passes for Hammerheads as her receivers let her down, dropping several passes while they were wide open. Hong Nguyen who captured Rusher of the Year honors had two tackles and a sack for the Hammerheads defense.
