The Cayman Rugby Club hosts the 1st Annual Ribena Halloween Fun Run this Saturday, 31 October at the South Sound pitch. Registration on the day will begin at 6:30 am with the full 5k race beginning at 7:00 am.
“This is the first time in recent memory that the Rugby club has held a fun run and organisers hope that it will become a regular feature on the clubs events calendar,” said Cayman Rugby and Football Union Vice President for Operations Matt Bishop.
“Although this is officially a fund raising effort, the emphasis will be firmly on fun and participation and all members of the club (and the wider public) are invited to join in,” Mr Bishop said.
Organiser Rowena Lawrence said “this event is very much an opportunity for members of the public to come down and help support the club by taking part in what we hope will be a fun event for all concerned.
We have a full 5K run for adults and shorter races for our juniors and less athletic participants. We welcome registrations from anyone on the island who would enjoy a bit of exercise this weekend.”
The Cayman Rugby club is delighted that Ribena has agreed to sponsor the run.
“Ribena is a great fit for this event,” Mr Lawrence said.
“The club places a huge focus on the development of our juniors and Ribena is exactly the kind of sponsor that we want to work with. A healthy drink for healthy kids.”
The club is also extremely grateful to other local business such as Cayman Airways and CI Helicopters for their continued support of the club.
The Cayman Rugby Club plays a huge part in the local community and its profile has expanded greatly under the leadership of Technical Director Richard ‘Grizz’ Adams over the last decade.
The club has a wide membership base, ranging from 4-year olds who are just learning the game right through to the “old boys” who founded the club back in the 1970’s. “The strong family nature of the club is what we want to celebrate,” Mr Bishop noted.
“This is a chance for friends of the club (past and present) to come down and have a bit of fun. We’re not expecting Olympic performances.”
Registration is just CI$15 for adults and children are free. Participants can register at the club throughout this week or by logging on to www.caymanactive.com.
A shorter version of the race for juniors will start at 8:00 am.
The morning will conclude with a lolly scramble for all the kids at 8:45 am. |
