The East End Football club recently elected a new office with Johnnie McLean at the helm, to serve as president.
Other elected officials include Vice President Darrel Rankin, General Secretary Darcia Bodden, Manager Rico Bodden and Technical Director Thiago Cunha.
The team, that plays in the First Division, is regarded as the team of the future with 9 of the players having a chance to play for the next ten years; fortunately, the team has started on a high note by beating North Side.
“As the Technical Director I have worked to ensure that I have planned ahead by an average of 10 years.”
It has been an occurrence in teams that old players are also being developed to become coaches, directors and managers since football is not just dribbling the ball across the football field.
Mr Cunha gave the example of Triston McField U-13 Coach, Rico Bodden U-17 Coach and Syd Pearson as products of this approach. Brian Watler is the Primary School Coach.
According to Dominic Pearson, who was instrumental in the 2-1 thrashing of North Side. Dominic, who scored the two goals, the first in the 22nd minute of the game and the other one in the 82nd minute of the game, started training in earnest in July of this year and the display of the game was what the team had prepared for.
Unlike other teams that play in the various leagues, East End is a team made up of 90 percent Caymanians. The team has a strong community representation having worked with more than 60 players and rivaling most of the sports activities in the district.
Rodrick Pearson, who is straight from Brazil, having trained with Vasco da Gama told Cayman Net News that his goal is to succeed as a professional footballer, “I am sure that this objective is going to be reached since most of our players have greatly improved with the coaching,” he said.
Another player, Damian Rankin noted that the rigorous training is due to Mr Cunha giving the players personal attention. |
