Bad to the Bone strong on defence

Team “Lion Tail”, 2009 Youth Division Knock-Out Cup Champions

Team Bad To the Bone proved once again this week that they are the best 6-a-side team on the Brac by taking the double this season, claiming both the League Championship and Knock-Out Cup of the 2009 CBP&L 6-a-side Football Competition.

One would have to say that team “Bad to the Bone” has their defence supremely guarded. They reached the finals of the Knock-Out Cup by defeating team Gazza 2-0 in the semi-final first leg and easily drawing 0-0 in their second leg encounter.

It was team Olimpia, better known as the draw specialist who would face-off against team “Bad to the Bone” in the final after going through on the away-goal rule.

Young sensations CD Marathon held team Olimpia 0-0 in their first leg encounter but drew 1-1 in their return leg at home and had to settle for battling it out with team Gazza for third-place honors.

It was CD Marathon who scored first and withdrew to defending their one-goal advantage but could not hold it for long as Olimpia sprang a quick counter-attack and rifled a bullet of a goal past goalkeeper Nicholas Scott to tie the game and take them to the finals.

In the Youth Division of the Knock-Out Cup, there were many surprises in store on the last night, where teams were fighting for third-place and the Knock-Out Cup itself. First up was team Un-Tiro Ballers taking on team Bracka Boys for third-place.

No one expected Bracka Boys to lose this match, but that all changed mid-way into the second half when Un-Tiro Ballers got their second wind and unloaded a barrage of goals on “Bracka Boys” within a ten minute period to win the game 4-1 and take third place in the Cup.

The Knock-Out Cup final of the Youth Division was a show-down between team Lion Tail and undefeated team Brac United.

Again like the third-place match earlier, no one expected Brac United to lose, but United was unfortunately without their top female striker Shanelle Frederick, as she was off-island heading to Jamaica to get her US Visa and head to Haiti with the rest of the Cayman Islands National U-17 Girls team. Shanelle’s absence proved to be very vital and she was sorely missed as Brac United could not break down Lion Tail’s defense. Both settled for a 1-1 tie at the end of the game and headed straight into penalties.

Tafari Young, Jacob Scott and Erick Rodriguez all scored their penalties for team Lion Tail along with Nicholas Laurendo and Astrid Scott.

It was Melicia Ebanks and Edmundlee Keating who could not convert their penalties and the Knock-Out Cup would therefore belong to team Lion Tail for 2009.

Double Cup Champions team Bad to the Bone will rule the nest for 2009 after defeating team Olimpia in a penalty show-out for the Knock-Out Cup this week.

Converting for team Bad to the Bone were Fabio Smith and Jamie Sanford while both Dal and Dannie Walton missed their penalty kicks for Olimpia and settled for Knock-Out Cup runners-up for 2009.
