Academy whipped Scholars 3-1 on Wednesday 27 October in a First Division match played at the T E McField Sports Complex.

Goals were scored by, Miguel Simms, Ariel Tatum and Andrez Ruiz captain of the team.

The game was a must see as skill and experience tried to outdo the power of youth, most of the Academy players being young and Scholars having the veterans.

In the initial minutes of the game Academy seemed to have their plan working like a text book, but started playing a relaxed game after the first goal.

Speaking to Cayman Net News, Academy Technical Director Winston Chong, although happy with the score, was not happy with his players.

“The team is not playing on the level I think they are capable of. There were too many mistakes in the plan that broke after the first goal”, Mr Chung confirmed.

The coach noted that his players had a long way to go to the level that he would like to see them play.

Mr Chung said that he would like to see his players attain a good concept of good football, but they need to understand the game. “If they maintain practice by mid-season then results will be seen,” said Mr Chong.

One of the players who blossomed in the game was Adrez Ruiz who is the forward comparable to Bodden Town Luigi Henandez who is a defender. Both players are representative of Cayman’s talent and they represent to the country in the U-17 team.

“These two players can go as far as they want to go, but they have to realize about the tremendous work to be done, one dilemma is that they cannot use local football as a basis to gauge how good they are. They need to go abroad and stretch their talent.”

Speaking to Cayman Net News the Scholars Technical Director Antonio Smith said that the team’s performance should not be judged on the first game in the season. He said that progress would be made by his team and the best was yet to come from them.

He said that during the game he tested new players and rested most of his experienced players and the performance by the neophytes was commendable.

He paid tribute to First Division Coach Mario Watler. Paul Lamont scored the consolation goal for Academy.
